Vehicles

We have, at present, 2 lorries, 2 motorcycle combinations and 2 trailers. Some of these are original vehicles, some are either reproductions or post-war vehicles which have been modified to be accurate copies of the wartime version. All the vehicles are in running order and are fully road legal.

Why use post-war or reproduction vehicles?

This is a question we are often asked and the answer is threefold. Firstly there is the cost - original German vehicles are now very expensive (tens of thousands of pounds as a starting price) and, for most of us, setting aside that sort of money isn't viable without a lottery win. Secondly there is the issue of reliability - with post-war vehicles, the spares are sometimes more readily available and are a lot cheaper which means we can keep them running easier. Thirdly, and finally, there is the practicality aspect - we want to be able to use the vehicles, either on the road to transport kit or off road at events and it is just not viable to use a £55,000 lorry in this manner, especially when spares are very scarce. Unlike the Wehrmacht, we don't have a workshop and mechanics waiting to fix it if it goes wrong - it's down to one person to keep it running!

Is it cheating? Not really as we are trying to give an impression of how things would have been - after all, none of us are even German!
